Rwanda Primates Tour 7 – Days, 6 nights (RPT 1)
If you are not a fun of long drives, you will still be able to enjoy this tour with a reduction in the long drives. There is a flight (Rwandair) between Kigali and Cyangugu – Kamembe, (Nyungwe Forest Area) 3 days a week, Tues, Thurs, and Sat.
Discover the hidden gem of Rwanda (Nyungwe National park), the historical and intellectual town of Butare with its cultural richness displayed in the national museum, the royal palace and the traditional dances. Take the amazingly scenic drive along the shores of Lake Kivu towards Gisenyi heading to the Volcanoes Park for gorilla tracking – the climax of the tour.
Day 1:
Arrive Kigali International airport where a representative of Rwanda Wilderness Safaris will meet and greet you.
Take a city tour around Kigali
Dinner today will be at a local restaurant where you will be briefed about your tour
Overnight at a hotel of your choice
Day 2:
After an early breakfast, begin your drive south west heading to Nyungwe forest National Park.
Enroute, you will visit the Royal palace in Nyanza where the seat of the traditional monarchy was. At this royal palace, you are most likely to be entertained by a traditional dance troupe, which portrays the rich Rwandan culture.
Proceed to Butare where you will visit the National museum which houses some of the finest collections in East and Central Africa
Take a stopover in the town of Butare for Lunch and then proceed further to Nyungwe forest.
Dinner and overnight at Gisakura Guest House
Day 3:
After a very early breakfast, you will track deep into Nyungwe forest for the Chimpanzees. These primates are the most closely related to humans than any other living creatures, they live in troupes of 10 – 120 members and encountering a group of them is quite an amazing experience.
Lunch at Gisakura Guest House
This afternoon you will visit a nearby tea plantation where you will be briefed about the tea making process.
Overnight at Gisakura Guest House
Day 4:
This day is entirely spent on a wonderfully scenic drive on an unpaved road
After breakfast begin your scenic drive along the shores of Lake Kivu stopping for lunch at Moriah Hill Resort.
After lunch proceed with your lake shore drive to Gisenyi
Overnight at Lake Kivu Serena Hotel (up-market) or Stipp Hotel (Budget)
Day 5:
Morning at leisure with an opportunity to enjoy your time at the beach
After lunch, drive to the volcanoes national park
This afternoon you may explore the area, a visit to the market, the twin lakes Ruhondo and Burera, among other places of interest.
Overnight at a hotel in of your choice in Ruhengeri
Day 6:
Early breakfast, followed by a drive to the park offices
You will all get together at the park offices and at 0700hrs, be grouped into groups of 8pax, assigned a gorilla family and trackers/guides who will brief you about the gorilla tracking experience and the particular gorilla family you will have been assigned.
Drive to the starting point of the trek where you will begin the hike to see the gorillas and your driver will stay and wait for your return.
Ounce you trace the gorillas, you will have a chance to stay with them for a magical hour experiencing their ways and behaviors before getting back to the base where your driver will be waiting
Return to your hotel for lunch and then drive back to Kigali
Overnight at a hotel of your choice
Day 7:
Transfer to the airport for your departure flight depending on departure time
